Samsung is planning a major upgrade for the Galaxy S11, with the flagship smartphone set to feature a 108-megapixel image sensor.

The Korean electronics giant developed the Isocell Bright HMX sensor to bring high-end camera specs to its top tier mobile phones, however it will be another smartphone manufacturer that will first introduce it.

Chinese firm Xiaomi revealed at the Future Conference that it will debut Samsung’s image sensor on one of its phones later this year

It will be the first time an image sensor on a smartphone has exceeded 100 million pixels, with images measuring 12,032 x 9,024 pixels..

News that Samsung will include it in the Galaxy S11 comes from notorious leaker Ice Universe, however the release date for the next Samsung flagship is not expected until Spring 2020.

In a blog post describing the new sensor, Xiaomi said the huge pixel count will allow users to take billboard-sized images.

“Photographers can not only take more detailed photos, but also make better use of their imagination and creativity with this sensor,” the post stated.

“Samsung’s 100MP sensor will be the largest smartphone image sensor offered on the market. The notable sensor size enables an ultra-high light input to deliver stellar images in low-light environments.”

Xiaomi added that the new sensor would be able to maintain a high-resolution even when zoomed in, claiming it will be able to take 27MP images in 2x zoom.

Ice Universe also claimed in its latest leak that the camera on the Samsung Galaxy S11 will come with 10x optical zoom.

IPhone 12 Coming Soon? Apple Might Release ‘Most Dramatic Designs’

We are still reveling in Apple’s latest releases – iPhone 11, pro and pro max – and next thing, we hear there’s a 12 series already in the works! What a time to be alive!

There have been so many rumours about Apple’s iPhone designs for every time a new model is about to be launched but, over at 9to5Mac, experts have a little information on what we should expect.

Experts at 9t05Mac say the notch-free design shown in a previously released render of the 2020 Apple models is unlikely to show something that will come to fruition. The latest take, however, moves us into far more feasible territory.

According to reports from supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and PhoneArena-crafted renders, we can possibly expect to get a design update that leans into slab-like territory that should be familiar to those who recall the harder aesthetic choices that defined the iPhone 4 era.

These predictions also include the possibility of smaller notches and a quad-camera aesthetic (to accommodate the rumored implementation of a Time-of-Flight camera), which, according to CNET, could theoretically be used as an assist piece in AR mapping and/or the addition of Portrait Mode when shooting video.

Apple is quietly working on the perfect iPhone




iPhone owners know that Apple only refreshes the handset’s design every once in a while, usually when it has something significant to say, design-wise. But, if you’ve been following the iPhone from the start, you probably realized that all the changes Apple made to the iPhone over the years, from the first model all the way to the iPhone X, are baby steps that Apple has been taking towards delivering the perfect iPhone design.

The iPhone X is the latest major design refresh, of course, which Apple used for the iPhone XS and iPhone 11. Come next year, we’re going to get a brand new design, one that’s said to be inspired by the iPhone 4, and a design that should get us even closer to the perfect all-screen iPhone. And Apple is quietly working on bringing that ideal design to life, a new discovery shows.

The iPhone X is a design compromise that Apple had to make and then stick to. The phone features the best screen-to-body ratio Apple could come up with without sacrificing the front-facing camera experience in any way, and without ditching the sophisticated 3D face recognition system that is Face ID.

Apple’s rivals made similar compromises, including hole-punch displays, slide-up cameras, and rear-facing secondary screens. But all of these companies, Apple included, are working on technologies that will let them create true all-screen phones. These devices will feature sensors and cameras under the display, and have no physical buttons. Oppo has already demoed an under-display camera, and Huawei launched a phone with a waterfall display.

Apple usually doesn’t announce tech advances that aren’t ready for the market, with the AirPower wireless charger being a rare exception. But the company’s various patents do reveal clues as to what types of innovations it’s working on. A well-known patent describing an iPhone with a wraparound display was published all the way back in 2013, prompting speculation at the time, and in the years that followed, that Apple would make such a phone (see the concept image above).

When that patent emerged, Apple had yet to launch the iPhone 6, which was the first iPhone to feature displays similar to what was already available on Android. The iPhone 6 also featured the kind of design upgrade that got Apple closer to making an all-screen iPhone. It’s almost 2020, and the iPhone 12 doesn’t look like it’ll get such a design, for the time being. The phone is rumored to have a smaller Face ID notch than its predecessors, in addition to iPhone 4-like lines, although we’re likely still months away from knowing the final design.

But Apple updated its work on smartphones with wraparound displays with new patent documentation titled Electronic Device with Wrap Around Display (via Business Insider). The patent application, published late last month, was filed on July 3rd, and features imagery we’ve seen before in previous related patents:

The documentation notes that the display would form a “continuous loop around a periphery of the electronic device,” and that it would use “facial tracking software,” to determine the orientation of the user. The latter claim indicates the device would have 3D cameras on both sides, and while the drawings suggest the selfie cameras would have the same design as before, it’s very likely they’d actually be placed under the screen. A wraparound display with large top and bottom bezels isn’t likely something Apple would do.

The illustration above also indicates that virtual buttons would be placed on the sides of the screen rather than physical ones. The fact that Apple filed a new patent for its wraparound iPhone doesn’t guarantee that Apple will actually make such a device. But it shows that Apple hasn’t given up on the idea of making the ultimate iPhone.

Evolution and Future Generation of TV: The LG Transformation




Televisions can be found in billions of homes around the world. But 100 years ago, nobody even knew what a television was. Since replacing radio as the most popular mass medium in the 1950s, television has played such an integral role in modern life that, for some, it is difficult to imagine being without it. Both reflecting and shaping cultural values, television has at times been criticized for its alleged negative influences on children and young people and at other times lauded for its ability to create a common experience for all its viewers.

How such a ground-breaking technology turn from a niche invention to a living room mainstay remains one of the most interesting stories about human development over the last decades.

Interestingly, the world’s first electronic television was created by a 21 year old inventor named Philo Taylor Farnsworth. That inventor lived in a house without electricity until he was age 14. Starting in high school, he began to think of a system that could capture moving images, transform those images into code, then move those images along radio waves to different devices.

We can see the advancement and the evolutionary journey of how the TV resolution and picture quality have improved in the last 20 years. The changeover from analog to digital television technology was a slow process, and it wasn’t until the mid-1990s that HDTV broadcasting began. At that time, most HDTVs were plasma TVs, which were expensive, so HDTV adoption was slow. By the mid-2000s however, affordable 40-inch LCDs started to be sold.

By the end of the decade, LCD HDTVs were outselling traditional cathode ray tube (CRT) TVs as well as plasma TVs. Post HDTVs, companies started looking for newer technologies that could be offered to consumers. The last few years have including curved screens, high dynamic range (HDR), smart TVs, OLED TVs, and 4K. Now with the hyperrealist detail and picture quality of 8K available to consumers, the next generation of TVs are upon us.

One of the major factors that influence TV preference in many homes today is picture quality.

Most recently, LG’s mainstream OLED TV line-up which include the B9, C9, E9 and W9 (wallpaper) ranges have become some of the most-sought after TVs. LG B9 and C9 come with a slim design without distinctive design elements, whereas E9 has a glass design and W9 has the special wallpaper design with a separate electronics box that doubles as a soundbar with Dolby Atmos. This makes the actual W9 screen extremely thin.

The company said that it is planning to increase its focus on large-format TVs as market data reveals that consumers have a big appetitive for 70″+ TVs. In this segment, LCD TVs rule as they are much more affordable.

With plans in top gear to introduce HDMI 2.1 in its high-end TVs, LG is also partnering with other global companies to disrupt the market with hi-tech innovations. The company is partnering with Apple, Google, Alexa among others to further enrich customer experience.

LG AI TVs are the first with the Google Assistant and Alexa, using LG ThinQ AI technology to become the center for your connected home. The Airplay 2 support coming by way of Apple also enables streaming of iTunes movies and TV shows.

There will be a host of visual enhancements with the new Alpha A9 (Gen. 2) processor, for better colour correction and support for 120fps frame rates on high-end LG TVs – and, more importantly, the first of rollable OLED television, the LG Signature Series OLED TV R.

Many industry experts believe LG will be playing a major role in the future of TV evolution in areas of innovation, picture quality, AI and other groundbreaking features.
