Apple is making serious moves to level up Siri — but fans eager for the revamped voice assistant will need to be patient a bit longer.
During Apple’s third-quarter earnings call, CEO Tim Cook confirmed that work is progressing on a more personalized version of Siri, with a release expected sometime next year. This comes after a rocky timeline of missed milestones and shifting software updates that pushed back Siri’s AI transformation multiple times.
Apple Intelligence Missed the Cue, But Siri’s Still in the Game
Last year, Apple teased the power of Apple Intelligence at WWDC, highlighting how AI could reinvent user experiences across devices. But when iOS 18.1 dropped, a reimagined Siri was nowhere in sight.
Originally planned for iOS 18.4, then 18.5, and eventually delayed indefinitely, Siri’s next-gen upgrade has seen more reshuffles than most features in recent memory. Apple even had to shift its AI leadership and became more cautious about feature promises during WWDC 2025.
What’s Coming with the Smarter Siri?
According to Cook, the smarter Siri will be part of a phased rollout, with the first iteration possibly launching in March 2026. Powered by Apple Intelligence, this version is expected to be more contextual, proactive, and personally tailored to individual users.
In the meantime, Apple is making strides in other areas of its AI platform. With iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe rolling out this fall, deeper ChatGPT integration is coming. Users will be able to screenshot content or use on-screen awareness to ask ChatGPT about anything they’re viewing.
Additionally, Apple’s Image Playground is getting new styles and creative enhancements, further demonstrating the company’s commitment to everyday, user-friendly AI experiences.
Apple’s AI Strategy: Slow, Steady — and Under Pressure
Unlike its competitors, Apple is choosing a slower, more calculated approach to AI — prioritizing privacy and seamless integration over flashy demos. While this strategy may frustrate some early adopters, it could pay off in long-term user trust and performance.
That said, the pressure is mounting. With Google, Microsoft, and Meta aggressively pushing forward in AI innovation, Apple needs to deliver on its promises — and soon.
What This Means for Users
Whether you use Siri daily or barely interact with it, a smarter version could redefine how you engage with your Apple devices. From better scheduling help to more natural conversations and proactive suggestions, the smarter Siri aims to become less of a gimmick and more of a daily companion.
And with ChatGPT and on-device AI working side-by-side, Apple is quietly building a future where your phone knows what you need — before you ask.
