Garmin has launched Edge MTB, a rugged GPS bike computer designed specifically for off-road cyclists.
Described by the company as ‘designed by mountain bikers, for mountain bikers’, the new bike computer features 5 Hz GPS recording, MTB-specific ride profiles and trail maps, with a compact and durable design suited to technical terrain.
The Edge MTB is available now with a suggested retail price of US$399 / €399 / £339.
Purpose-built for trails
Garmin stated that the Edge MTB was developed to meet the growing global demand for mountain bike-specific technology. The device includes a scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass lens, overmoulded buttons for use with gloves or in wet conditions, and multiple mounting options including top tube and MTB-specific mounts.
5 Hz GPS recording
Garmin notes that location data is recorded five times more frequently than standard bike computers, improving the accuracy of trail tracking – especially during fast descents.
Enduro & downhill profiles
Riders can track stats from each individual descent, with automatic differentiation between riding and uplift segments (such as ski lifts or shuttles).
Trail maps & navigation
Built-in maps include MTB trail data from Trailforks, Garmin TopoActive maps, and Trendline Popularity Routing. Forksight mode displays upcoming trail names, elevation profiles, difficulty and primary direction of travel.
Performance tracking
Includes MTB metrics such as jump count and jump distance. Riders can also set timing gates to track split times and review performance data post-ride.
Safety features
Includes LiveTrack, incident detection and compatibility with Garmin’s Varia radar and smart lighting range, as well as inReach satellite communicators.
Athlete tested
Professional riders Troy Brosnan and Nino Schurter, both Garmin-sponsored athletes, have endorsed the Edge MTB. Brosnan stated that the new unit was “a game changer” thanks to its lightweight build and advanced GPS tracking. Schurter highlighted the onboard mapping and USB-C charging as key advantages for his training and racing setup.
