GeForce RTX 5080 laptops are a respectable 25 to 35 percent improvement over RTX 4080 laptops in pure rasterization

If you’re still sporting an “old” gaming laptop with GeForce RTX 4080 graphics, you may be wondering how much of an upgrade one can expect if upgrading to an RTX 5080 laptop. Based on our time with the new 2025 Schenker Neo 16, the delta is roughly 30 to 35 percent according to 3DMark benchmarks as shown by the graph below. The data takes into account the average of almost two dozen individually tested models all with GeForce RTX 4080 graphics.

the ~30 percent gap remains accurate when running actual games. Titles like Cyberpunk 2077 or Strange Brigade run 30 to 35 percent faster while others like Assassin’s Creed ShadowsFinal Fantasy 15Alan Wake 2, and Baldur’s Gate 3 can range between 15 to 30 percent faster whether at 1080p or 4K.

Of course, all the above comparisons are pure rasterization without any DLSS features active. DLSS benchmarks would favor the GeForce RTX 5080 more than the RTX 4080 as DLSS4 employs a more advanced AI model than DLSS3 alongside MFG (multi-frame generation) which is exclusive to the GeForce RTX 50 series. If the games you play support DLSS4, then it would behoove you to enable the feature to widen the performance gap over older generation gaming laptops.
