Representatives of digital solutions provider Globacom met on Thursday with heads of state-owned tertiary institutions and top officials in the education sector of the state with a view to having Glo Smart Schools in the state.
The initiative aims to have smart campuses, promote smart learning in no fewer than eight out of the 10 state-owned tertiary institutions in the state, and use Internet-driven educational solutions at a cheap rate.
At the meeting held in the conference room of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, State Secretariat, Ibadan, the Head of Enterprise Sales, West Region, Globacom, Mr Adeniyi Odejobi, explained that the Glo Smart School initiative encompasses smart online learning tools, video conferencing, the development of course content, and online content availability.
Among others, the initiative provides opportunities for e-attendance to monitor enrolment, e-notices, and easy pay, with students getting a Tap and Go Card to report attendance and pay fees, while school administrators can publish e-notices to sponsors and parents, monitor payment status and attendance, and receive and reply to e-notices via the Glo LMS App.
The Glo LMS is a smart application for administration, documentation, tracking, reporting, automation, and delivery of educational courses.
Features of the solution offered by the institutions include unmatched data value, 3G HSI and 4G LTE, data sharing with up to 5G numbers, data gifting, a self-care portal to manage data, a closed user group, bundled data, amazing call rates, and a smart ID card insulated from the smart learning portal. Odejobi stressed that the Internet of Things was pivotal to establishing a more robust educational system in the nation at large
He added that the educational solutions were to ensure that the Internet of Things became widespread in schools to inculcate a user-friendly interface, personalised learning paths, interactive content, comprehensive reporting, and analytics, among other solutions.
“The solutions that the company brought today would ensure the availability of sufficient Internet bandwidth in all tertiary institutions in the state to ensure that the acquisition of knowledge and administration of the institutions become seamless,” Odejobi stressed.
Speaking further, Odejobi said Globacom was keen on collaboration with the heads of Oyo tertiary institutions, bearing in mind their peculiarities, and was open to training students and staff on how the Internet solutions work.
Odejobi said Globacom sought collaboration with Oyo State, bearing in mind its conviction that the state should join the league of states with smart tertiary institutions.
