Google Announces AI-Powered Innovations for Healthcare

Google has announced a series of new healthcare-focused products and features, leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance health-related user experiences.

Key updates include expanded AI-driven “knowledge panels” in Google Search, offering comprehensive overviews on thousands of health topics, with support for Spanish, Portuguese, and Japanese queries on mobile.

A U.S.-only feature, “What People Suggest,” will use AI to aggregate advice from online discussions, aimed at providing personalised insights from user-shared experiences.

Additionally, Google introduced globally available medical records APIs for its Health Connect platform on Android.

These APIs will streamline access to medical data, such as allergies and immunisations, in standard FHIR format, connecting information across apps and devices.

In a related announcement, Google’s Pixel Watch 3 is set to launch its FDA-cleared Loss of Pulse Detection feature in the U.S. by March’s end, capable of detecting critical health issues and prompting emergency responses.

Google also unveiled “TxGemma,” new open AI models for drug discovery, slated for release in the coming weeks.

These innovations further solidify Google’s push into the healthcare sector.
