Rumor: Samsung working on 500MP camera for future Galaxy devices

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is set to be equipped with a 200-megapixel (MP) camera. The company first debuted its 200-megapixel sensor with the Galaxy S23 series. Meanwhile, Samsung is aiming to fuel future Galaxy devices with a 500MP camera.

According to Jukanlosreve, Samsung is developing a 500MP camera sensor for Galaxy devices. The ISOCELL division seems to be busy developing this majestic image sensor to be ultimately used in a future Galaxy S Ultra smartphone.

Samsung has made significant progress in evolving smartphone camera capabilities. The company’s ISOCELL range of image sensors power the most premium mobile phones including the upcoming Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Sony also takes charge of the Telephoto and Periscope camera supply chain. The main camera is the most used functionality on mobile phones and Samsung doesn’t want it to source outside of its own umbrella with a custom design.

Control over hardware and software lets Apple maintain an edge over rivals in the market. Samsung has a pretty nice ecosystem of components, software, and hardware, however, the evolution is comparatively slow.

Equipping a 500MP camera would significantly improve the photography capabilities. It will make a notable impact on photos captured from far away, as the sensor will store more details, light, and colors to stay vibrant even after heavy cropping.

Well, it would require the software to be tweaked to support and function. Battery customization could also be a concern as the sensor will require more resources. Samsung will have to address all the issues before bringing it to the market.

Before the 500MP sensor, we may see 320MP and 440MP image sensors. As the development is underway, the commercialization is a different thing. As for now, take this rumor as a grain of salt, we will keep you posted with new insights.
