Standard Huawei Mate 80 likely to continue single punch hole design

Huawei Mate 80 series will likely feature a Mate 70-inspired screen design with a single punch hole layout for the standard model and three holes for the high-end variants. A tipster posted possible display appearance of the next-gen Mate flagship.

Although the launch of Mate 80 is still a long way off, it is already appearing in leaks. The device is specifically grabbing attention for its display panel upgrades.

FixedFocus has now leaked a few screen specs of the Mate 80 series. The tipster says that Huawei may switch to a flat display solution for the entire new Mate lineup.

Earlier, a leak suggested that Huawei may use a flat screen for the standard and Mate 80 Pro models, while Pro+ and RS Ultimate Design may continue with quad-curved display panels. However, the OEM may completely change this pattern.

The tipster further mentioned that the standard Huawei Mate 80 will likely use a single punch hole design, whereas the other three models will stick to the signature three-hole layout. The familiar screen look will probably last for a long time.

A three-hole design refers to the selfie sensor + 3D face recognition. The Mate 60 series was the first to introduce this layout. Huawei continued the same design for the Mate 70 Pro and RS models, offering enhanced security over 2D systems.

Glue-dotting technology

Inputs also reveal that the company will use a glue-dotting process to craft Class-IV, ultra-narrow bezels. Also known as point adhesive application, this process secures a screen to its frame with the help of tiny, discrete dots of adhesive rather than strips. It ensures a strong, even, flexible, and reliable bond.

Huawei is planning to launch extraordinary products this year, and Mate 80 models won’t be an exception. The foremost change could be visible in terms of the screen.
