WhatsApp to introduce a new scan document camera feature

WhatsApp is working on a new feature for the app’s camera called the “scan document” capability. The new addition aims to ease the scanning tasks in the application. Users may not require any other tool to scan and send documents in the app.

Spotted in the Android 2.25.18.29 beta version, WhatsApp is developing a significant “scan document” feature for the app’s camera. The capability is live for some beta testers at the moment through the Google Play Beta Program.

A new option called “Scan Document” now appears in the app settings. The tool will immediately activate as soon as users open the camera in the application.

Tapping on the feature will probably open the camera preview section on the screen, allowing the user to point their camera at the document they want to capture.

Users can choose from two modes to scan the document in WhatsApp:

  • Manual Mode: It will enable users to control how the photo should be captured.
  • Automatic Mode: This feature will smartly detect the borders of the document and perform the capture without any intervention from the user.

The Automatic Mode is more useful compared to the manual mode as it will make the scanning operation faster and more convenient for users. After taking the picture, WhatsApp will automatically convert the image into a PDF immediately.
