Xiaomi Watch S4 is now official with HyperOS 2.0, gesture controls and 1,500 nit AMOLED display

Xiaomi has updated its smartwatch portfolio with the Watch S4. Boasting an ultra-bright display, the Xiaomi Watch S4 also supports eSIM functionality and arrives alongside the Smart Band 9 Pro, Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro, among other devices.

Xiaomi has introduced a whole heap of new devices today during an event in China. Arguably, the stars of the show are the Xiaomi 15, Xiaomi 15 Pro and Pad 7 Pro, details of which we have covered separately. Additionally, it has presented a successor to the Watch S3 (curr. $135.49 on Amazon), which only received a global release in February after debuting four months prior in China.

Predictably, an interchangeable bezel remains one of the key selling points of the Watch S4. For reference, these bezels surround a 1.43-inch and 1,500-nit AMOLED display, which is 300 nits brighter than the Smart Band 9 Pro that Xiaomi presented today too. Meanwhile, inputs can be handled either through the smartwatch’s touchscreen, its digital crown or a new set of wrist gestures.

Moreover, the Watch S4 is said to feature sensors that can monitor blood oxygen levels and heart rates with 98.2% accuracy compared to a professional alternative. As usual, Xiaomi has included an optional eSIM, an NFC chip and a GPS module for use with the device’s 150+ sports modes. Furthermore, the Watch S4 should last 5 days with its always-on display active or up to 15 days in what Xiaomi describes as ‘normal usage’.

Like its predecessor, the Watch S4 is exclusive to China at launch. However, the eventual arrival of the Watch S3 outside China suggests that its successor will also receive the same treatment. Incidentally, the Watch S4 is a cheaper alternative to the Watch S4 Sport that has been available in China since mid-July. Xiaomi has priced its latest smartwatch at CNY 999 (~$140) or CNY 1,199 (~$168) for its eSIM variant. In other words, the Watch S4 costs about half as much as the Watch S4 Sport.
