As exciting as crossing the finish line in a car race – that was how Mercedes-AMG presented its new GT V8 sports car this evening, the second vehicle to be entirely developed under its own direction.

This is the second car that AMG have made entirely under it’s own direction and isn’t it brilliant looking, long and low with a nod to the SLS with a V8 up front driving the rear wheels. It’s also the first car to drop the ‘Benz’ from the name.

There will be two turbos mounted inside the 4ltr V8 something Mercedes is calling ‘Hot inside V’ which sounds good if a little obscure.

You can have 456 or 503bhp from the engines so you should be able to get to 60mph in less than four seconds.

Gone are the gull-wing doors from the SLS we are back to conventional hinges.

It’s set to take on the Porsche 911 and Jaguar F-Type and will go on show at the Paris motor show in a couple of weeks, Irish prices and details might be thin on the ground but the F-Type is selling here so there’s no reason not to have the AMG GT in showrooms.
